Is this investment too good to be true?

some people i know recently discovered a musician and got him signed to universal records. apparently the record producer said they would make 1 million dollars in 90 days and get a certain percentage every time the artist makes money just for discovering him. this to me all sounds kind of sketchy....does anyone know anything about this?
